Supporting Medical Coders During Times of Financial Hardship
At PMBAUSA LLC, we believe financial hardship should not prevent a qualified medical coding professional from continuing to learn, strengthen skills, and pursue professional advancement.
The PMBAUSA 100% Scholarship Program is designed to support eligible unemployed medical coders in the United States who are experiencing genuine financial hardship. Approved applicants may receive 100% scholarship assistance for selected PMBAUSA training programs, certification programs, fellowship programs, or professional development opportunities, subject to eligibility review and program availability.
The concept follows the broader professional principle used by hardship-support programs in the coding industry: applicants should demonstrate a reasonable financial hardship, complete the application fully, and understand that assistance is awarded only after review rather than automatically.
The PMBAUSA Scholarship Program is intended primarily for medical coding professionals in the United States who are:
- Currently unemployed
- Experiencing documented or demonstrable financial hardship
- Seeking to improve or maintain professional medical coding skills
- Interested in advancing through PMBAUSA education, certification, or fellowship programs
- Able to provide accurate information requested during the scholarship review process
- Willing to complete the selected program within the assigned access period
Prior certification is not necessarily required for every scholarship category; however, individual PMBAUSA certifications and fellowships may have their own eligibility prerequisites.
Depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the program selected, scholarship assistance may include:
- PMBAUSA professional certification training
- Certification examination fees
- Specialty fellowship programs
- Medical coding and billing education
- CDI and auditing education
- HCC Risk Adjustment training
- Revenue Cycle Management education
- ICD-10-CM and ICD-11 education
- Healthcare AI and medical coding AI programs
- Selected continuing professional development programs
For approved applicants, eligible scholarship support may cover up to 100% of the applicable PMBAUSA program fee.
Each application is reviewed individually. PMBAUSA may consider factors such as current employment status, financial circumstances, professional background, existing coding credentials, career goals, requested program, and the applicant’s ability to benefit from the educational opportunity.
Applicants should provide complete and truthful information. Incomplete applications may not be considered. Scholarship decisions are made at PMBAUSA’s discretion based on eligibility, demonstrated hardship, program suitability, and available scholarship capacity.
Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
Scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis. PMBAUSA may approve full assistance, offer an alternative educational program, place an applicant on a waiting list, or decline an application when eligibility requirements are not met.
The scholarship is intended for individuals with genuine financial need and should not be used merely as an alternative to paying standard program fees.

- City and state of residence
- PMBAUSA Membership ID, if applicable
- Current employment status
- Date employment ended
- Previous employer and position
- Medical coding experience
- Current professional certifications
- Certification dates
- Educational background
- Program or credential requested
- Description of financial hardship
- Career goals
- Explanation of how the scholarship will support re-employment or career advancement
Information submitted through the scholarship application will be used for scholarship evaluation and administrative purposes.
